“We are proud to support the expansion of Citi Bike among New Yorkers who can benefit most from affordable access to transportation,” said George Hulse, Vice President of Community Engagement, Healthfirst. “As we celebrate 25 years as a trusted partner to our members, providers and sponsor hospitals, this new partnership reaffirms our commitment to helping people live healthier lives — one person – and now one Citi Bike rider – at a time.”

With Healthfirst’s support, and alongside our partners at NYC DOT, we announced yesterday that Citi Bike’s $5/month membership now extends to the 1.6 million SNAP recipients citywide! NYCHA Residents and SNAP recipients can ride month to month for just $5 – putting the power of our pricing in their pocket.

“Access to reliable transportation is essential in this day and age, and that’s why this announcement is a major step in the right direction,” said City Council Speaker Corey Johnson. “Discount Citi Bike memberships for the New Yorkers who need it most will make our city a bit more fair, more healthy, and more fun. I congratulate Mayor de Blasio and DOT on this promising new initiative and I thank Healthfirst on behalf of the 1.6 million people eligible to take advantage of this offer.”

Healthfirst, the largest not-for-profit health insurance plan in New York City, is committed to breaking down health barriers for all New Yorkers regardless of income. Each member of their team has a deep commitment to helping New Yorkers live healthier lives. They have a 25 year track record of connecting NYC residents to health resources. With this new partnership they are doubling down on their investment in the health of New Yorkers and breaking down the financial barriers that keep many from riding Citi Bike.

We kicked off the announcement yesterday with our partners at Bed Stuy Restoration, and were joined by HRA First Deputy Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, Dr. Torian Easterling, Assistant Commissioner of the Brooklyn Neighborhood Health Action Centers, New York City Health Department, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, and NYCHA Resident Shaquana Boykin, reinforcing our commitment to increase access to the city and build the biggest equity program in the country!

We’re excited to work alongside all of our great partners in the coming months to spread the word — and get people signed up — for this new program.
